Anxiety is characterized by feelings of nervousness, worry,  and on edge with physical changes such as increased heart rate or blood pressure. Anxiety is not the same as fear, but for some reason are used interchangeably. Anxiety can affect people as a feeling as if something awful will happen, irritability or annoyance.  Anxiety is rated on a scale of minimal, mild, moderate, and severe.

Steph's Approach to Anxiety

Anxiety comes in several forms, there is excessive worry, panic attacks, phobias, and discursive thoughts. When anxiety consistently causes you to feel irritable, tense or restless, it could be part of a disorder.  There are many reasons for anxiety. It can be a chemical imbalance, previous personal trauma in the form of hyper vigilance, genetics, attachment issues or intergenerational trauma.

Whatever the cause, anxiety can keep from people from doing what they want with their life or be the person that they want to be. In fact, anxiety can keep people from even seeing the full spectrum of choices that life has to offer. Anxeity can prevent people from relaxing or experiencing calm.

I utilize different assessments to help accurately isolate which version of anxiety my clients have from generalized anxiety disorder to dissociation; from to sensory overwhelm in ADHD and autism to OCD. Each version of anxiety is valid to the person that is affected by it.

I meet my clients where they are. I help them envision the life that they want to live. Then, I backward chain how to get them to their end goal always keeping the client in mind increasing their special interests and decreasing the discursive thoughts and worry.
